With a large crowd in attendance to help celebrate Bomaderry’s 50th Anniversary, reserve grade got the day off to great start with a hard fought 3 goal win over Port Kembla.
Despite a slow start in the Women’s game which saw the Tiger’s trailing by 5 points at the main break, the girls found their rhythm in the second half to record a well-earned victory in front of a vocal and at times parochial crowd.
With 2 good wins under their belt it was up to 1st Grade to complete the sweep. Unfortunately a red card early in the second quarter saw Bomaderry reduced to 17 players on the field for the rest of the game and whilst the battled gamely it probably proved the difference in such a tough and hard fought contest.
Despite the loss and obvious disappointment, Bomaderry’s faithful still gave the boys plenty of applause as they left the field which I’m glad to say carried on through into the night as the Tiger’s celebrated together and acknowledged some of their past champions, life members, coaches, presidents and long list of achievements.
A big thanks to Steve Bayer & Chance Hanlon for their part in putting together what was a fantastic night in front of well over 200 past & present Tiger members. I’d also like to thank Deb, June & Kate for decorating the RSL, Julie Lawrence for capturing the night on camera and Debbie Gibb for putting together a fine spread upon our return to the Clubrooms.
As a Club we have so much to be proud of and it would be remiss of me if I didn’t thank the committee, coaching staff and playing members for your contribution in what was a very memorable weekend.
Of course the Highlight of the night for me was the announcement of our 50 Anniversary – ‘All Star Team’ and whilst I appreciate there will always be differences in opinion and a lot of very good footballers have missed out, this is a very good side whichever way you choose to look at it.
