Coaches Comments – Men’s Division One

With a strong easterly breeze blowing across Kully Bay, the Tigers kicked with the wind in the opening term.   With 11 inside fifty entries for the quarter the boys could only manage 3 goals with 6 entries in a row being kicked straight to the opposition.  With Port rebounding well they managed 3 scoring shots of their own to trail slightly at the first break

Score: Port 2 – 1: 13 to Bomaderry 3 – 0: 18

The second quarter was all Port with our boys being given a lesson on how to use the wind to advantage.  Port continued applying forward pressure with long kicks inside fifty as the Tigers failed to get numbers back to help.  With some undisciplined acts costing us a couple of telling 50 metre penalties the Tigers found themselves behind by 26 points at the main break

Score: Port 7 – 3: 45 to Bomaderry 3 – 1: 19

Kris Lonergan showed great leadership during the break to get the boys all together and focused on what needed to be done to get back into the contest.  The 3rd quarter saw the wind drop slightly & the Tigers come out with a very different mindset. Knowing there was plenty of time to go in the game the boys continued to push the ball forward at every opportunity.  The ball delivery forward was much better than the first half and created a number of scoring chances for the forwards.  Working hard for each other saw the Tigers making a small inroad on the deficit to only trail by 14 points at the final break.

Score: Port 7 – 6: 48 to Bomaderry 5 – 4: 34

The final quarter again saw the wind pick up which was favouring the home side.  The Tigers started to take control around the ground hitting targets and starting to get some run into their game.  Some outstanding individual efforts on defence saw Ports attack repelled a number of times which quickly turned into scoring opportunities for the Tigers.  To the boys credit they worked extremely hard to take the lead late in the game & looked like stealing a game they were never really in control of.  Unfortunately a 50 / 50 call with 20 sec on the clock gifted Port a late goal which saw the scores all tied up a 56 a piece.

Final Score: Port 8 -8: 56 drew with Bomaderry 8 – 8: 56

Division 2

What can I say, after a week of uncertainty, players unavailable, illness, late withdrawals, last minute registrations and so on, we finally rounded up enough players and with the help of 3 players from DIV1 the boys showed great character to defeat the LIONS @ NDP and record their first win of the season.

In what was easily our best tackling effort in a long time, the Tigers lead from start to finish with everyone contributing in what was a great team effort and a joy to watch.

With Jezza, Lema & Shins controlling the centre clearances and Abe Dunstan, Will Grootenboer, Les Wardale and Satchy proving hard to crack in defence, Bomaderry’s small men Will Clarke, Brayden Kelly, John Ulrick & Beau Hanger really got on top using their pace and run to advantage which allowed Tobias Hanger, Dale Lovatt & the forwards the chance to capitalise and kick a winning score.

A special thanks to Wilad Kaadan, Cooper Stephens, Beau Hanger & Tristan Woods for coming in at late notice. All played well as did the rest of their team mates.

Good win guys, Corey would have been tickled pink.

A special thanks to Ryan Kelly & Will Clarke for running water and especiallySimone who not only made the trip to both grounds to make sure the boys were strapped, but also found herself running water and acting as an ERC/First Aider for the opposition.

I would also like to commend everyone for the way they reacted to what was a sticky situation at Kully Bay and  Last but not least, I would like everyone to join me in wishing Jiggy & Tiff safe travels and all the best for the future.
